Today started very early. Lily had her first EUA, examination Under anesthesia. We weren't sure it was going to happen since she had a fever yesterday afternoon. Our PO told us if she had a fever within 12 hours of surgery time, the anesthesiologist wouldn't do it. I have to tell you about this time my faith and patience were extremely tested. Our sweet kiddos as a Family, and many friends and family members, had been praying for lily. We had Jay and our home teacher give her a blessing yesterday at church and now she comes down with a fever. I was frustrated and angry that this was happening. My sweet friend reminded me that faith doesn't always mean that things go the way we want them to. Of course I knew that but frustration and anger had taken over.
Lily made it through the night without a fever so we were able to go have the exam done! We left our house at 5:45 to pick up Laurie. We had decided to divide and conquer with the big kids so Jay stayed home which turned out to be a blessing. We made it up there and through all the pre op stuff. They have to use a different anesthesia when doing pressure checks. They also can't use gas either. So Lily got a dose of versed and she almost immediately went loopy. Our doctor is so amazing and loves lily so much! She knew I would have a hard time giving her over to the nurses. So I asked her if she would take lily back. We walked to the OR doors and off they went. She was back there about 45 minutes before the doctor came out to talk to us. Lilys pressure is different from right to left. Left is her good eye and her pressure was normal at 14. Right was at 20. Normal range is 10-21. She said she was on the fence wether to call it glaucoma or not. Lily will have the same EUA done in three months time to see if pressure has changed again. So regarding the glaucoma, we are on hold. She did get a new prescription for her glasses tho so she will have that in a couple of weeks time.
Lily slept an hour before they even let us back into recovery, where she was still sleeping! She continued to sleep for another 30-40 minutes and only protested slightly when they pulled her IV out and Laurie took her. Laurie has been through several surgical procedures with me for Liam and his GI issues. Laurie was almost singing that lily was the anti-Liam! Liam wakes up combative, ripping out his own IV, kicking, screaming, biting, pulling hair. You get the picture. Even when we get home be hits the floor running. Lily has slept most of the day. Tho she did get a bit cantankerous with the kids once or twice! She faked Larissa out of a big and completely chomped down and bit her. Thankfully she only bit her shirt but she's never bitten anyone!
Thank you to whomever reads this!! For all of your thoughts and prayers for lily and our family. We truly appreciate them and all of the help we've received.
PS I failed to mention the blessing of Jay staying home and not having the kids with a sitter today. Liam woke up with croup. Thankfully he was here to keep him comfortable and deal with our Peds Clinic who were less than helpful today :-(
